Today was grueling! Almost 4,000 ft of climbing! Unbelievable hills that never ended for the whole 76 miles.Breakfast in Essex was awesome! Aaron loved the egg bowl with apple cinnamon pecan French toast.
We experienced a lot of bike problems today. A HUGE THANK YOU to The Airforce (Team Hill out of Utah) came to our rescue (even willing to help a former Marine). They are incredible men and woman! We asked how many are riding the Ragbrai and they said 131 and there mission is stop and offer support to those who need it.
We even rode next to one US Airforce cyclist who was throwing out milkweed seed into the tall grasses along the ditches to promote butterfly population. More accidents today and thankfully none that involved us. Words and pictures can not describe the hospitality that each and every town extends. It is so exciting to see each town bond together and welcome over 10,000+ riders. Night two in the tent and I can honestly say, this is not my thing. With having to walk more than 1/2 mile at 2:30am to use the bathroom, ride all day and have to set up our tent and then take it all down again at 6 am, any one interested in driving an RV for Ragbrai 2017?? Tomorrow is 58 miles and only 3,000 ft of elevation. Go team!!
