Ragbrai 2016 Night 5, Day 4 of riding…today was 65.1 miles and only a 2,708 ft climb! Great ride today! We have yet to walk any of these hills! Someone recently told us the Ragbrai is like the State Fair on wheels. We AGREE! We are now over past yhe half way spot of Ragbrai with over 200 miles completed.
No mechanical problems (only Aaron’s cycling short issues), rode through many small towns including New York and Bethlehem. Each town greeted us with open arms. We made many new friends !
We came across the two woman dressed as babies, hilarious! They were in awe of us riding the tandem as they said they would have been divorced years ago if they rode one. Garrett and I ventured into a 10 minute massage today to help with muscle cramping we were experiencing. Garrett’s EMT training came in handy today as a biker ahead of him didn’t see where some concrete had worn away creating a whole and flipped over her handle bars and ended up with bloody knees and roads rash. She did go with the ambulance once they arrived on seen. Todd, another teammate helped direct bikers around the accident.
We saw the gentleman pulling a wheelchair on day one but I did not get the chance to read his sign until today. It read “you never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have”. We feel so blessed and Incredibly inspired to ride with this gentleman. Our troubles and struggles are nothing in comparison. Thanks for all the support and prayers! They are working.
